Live Daphnia Starter Culture Fish Food

$9.99

Extremely healthy cultures, perfect for feeding fry such as Betta, Guppies, German Rams, Angels, and more. You can start feeding them immediately. Each container can last indefinitely by maintaining the culture properly.

How to Keep Daphnia:

Prepare the Container: Use a clean bucket, tub, or aquarium with at least 5 gallons of capacity. Fill it with aged tap water, dechlorinated water, or pond water.

Aerate the Water: Use a gentle air stone to provide light aeration. Avoid strong currents that could harm the Daphnia.

Provide Food: Feed them with green water (algae) or a mix of powdered spirulina and yeast diluted in water. Feed sparingly to prevent overgrowth of bacteria and fouling the water.

Maintain Water Quality: Perform small water changes (10–20%) weekly with aged or dechlorinated water to keep conditions optimal.

Light Requirements: Place the container in an area with indirect light or use a light source for 12–16 hours a day to promote algae growth if using green water.

Optimal Temperature: Keep the water temperature between 65–75°F (18–24°C).

Harvest Regularly: Use a fine mesh net to scoop out Daphnia for feeding. Avoid overharvesting—leave plenty in the container to keep the culture thriving.

Replenish the Culture: If the population declines, start a new culture using some of the surviving Daphnia in fresh conditions.
